When I was just nine, I trained my first dog, a little cocker-spaniel, into the best hunting dog in my dad’s pack. She could out-hunt other retrievers because her training was based on a fantastic relationship, not just technique. Basic Obedience 2-Week Program
Is your new dog not quite what was promised? Is your house just a giant chew toy and race track? Our two-week Puppy & Adult Basic Obedience program takes your dog from the epitome of annoyance to a picture of obedience! With structured training, they’ll learn essential skills for a happy life at home, on adventures, and anywhere! By the end, you’ll have a well-mannered canine companion who’s a joy to be around and ready for all of life’s lessons and adventures!
Behavioral Issues 3-4 week Program
If your dog struggles with reactivity, aggression, or other behavioral issues, it can be stressful and make you feel terrible as an owner. We understand, and there’s good news! Whether your dog’s reactivity has just started, or it’s been going on so long you’re considering re-homing them, this is the program that you need.
We help you learn your dog’s triggers, whether fear or frustration, and learn how to manage them. We help you create a calm, responsive, amenable companion who’s comfortable with humans and other dogs. So, don’t do anything drastic! Our property isn’t just a place for training—it’s a retreat for dogs to relax and grow. Nestled on 24 peaceful acres in Shelbyville, TN, Black Dog Farm offers the perfect mix of structured training and downtime. We’ve got a 1-acre fenced yard, comfortable heated/cooled kennels, and covered open runs where your dog can (safely) explore, relax, and just be a dog all accessible from their kennel.
Here they’ll experience a balanced day of training, socialization, and quiet time to learn skills, embrace calm, and develop confidence. We’re also with them every step of the way—no unsupervised playgroups or being left alone at night, just personalized care for the entire time they stay with us!

When Annette and Rod brought in Teddy, their 1.5-year-old poodle, they were at their leash’s end. Like a traumatized squirrel, Teddy’s leash reactivity drove them up a tree as he barked and lunged at every dog. Walks were stressful, outings impossible. Luna the Husky Mix.
Luna came to us like a Bernese Mountain Dog sprinting for a squirrel—uncontrollable! During walks, she pulled her owner around and even knocked her down. As a rescue, Luna’s past was uncertain, and her unpredictable behavior earned her the title of “neighborhood demon”. After private lessons and a board-and-train, Luna wasn’t the same dog. She now greets guests politely, walks calmly on a leash, and is known as the “belle” of the neighborhood instead. That little dog out-hunted dogs three times her price because of the bond I built and the training I did with her.
From that moment on, I knew I wanted to work with animals for the rest of my life.
Dogs have always been at the center of my world. From family dogs growing up, to working with horses in the police mounted unit, to helping friends overcome their fears of bully breeds, my life has been a constant journey of building trust and connection between animals and their owners.
I thrive on helping dogs that others see as “lost causes” become calm, responsive companions and showing owners how to connect with their dogs in ways that change both their lives. What I love most about training dogs—other than being surrounded by them—is seeing owners realize their dogs aren’t “bad,” they just need leadership and communication.
